Your computer would be at the most risk of static damage when you place it on the carpet move it on the carpet or pick it up off the carpet.
I would only recommend this to someone who has had a traumatic experience with static damaging their computer already or they are building a rig that s either ungodly expensive or not their own.
But carpets are really good at trapping dust pet hair and all manner of other things.
The carpet isn t a great place to keep your computer but it isn t dangerous either.
Depending on the carpet wouldn t it keep more dust than a wooden floor.
